The newly-appointed Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday, July 11, announced that Madhya Pradesh is all set to get eight new flights connecting Maharashtra and Gujarat from Friday, July 16.

In order to boost regional connectivity, the low-cost domestic airline, SpiceJet, will launch new flights from Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra.

Under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN, financial incentives from the Centre, state governments and airport operators are extended to selected airlines to encourage operations from unserved and underserved airports, and keep airfares affordable.

In this scheme, the flights would utilise the lesser-used airports in the country and offer affordable rates to travellers. Moreover, the Central government has set a target of opening 100 new airports under this scheme.

“Good news for Madhya Pradesh! Starting 8 new flights from July 16 onwards via SpiceJet: Gwalior-Mumbai-Gwalior; Gwalior-Pune-Gwalior; Jabalpur-Surat-Jabalpur; Ahmedabad-Gwalior-Ahmedabad,” the minister said on Twitter.

“The Civil Aviation Ministry & the aviation industry are committed to take UDAN to greater heights!” he added.

For those unaware, Jyotiraditya Scindia left the Congress party and joined BJP recently. In a cabinet reshuffle last week, he was given charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. His father was the minister of this department in the early 1990s.
