Post-Elphinstone stampede, the Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) are leaving no stone unturned in providing safety to commuters. Elphinstone stampede, which claimed 23 lives, occurred mainly due to the narrow FOB. Taking a lesson, both the lines' officials carried out the inspection work and planned to construct new FOBs. One such FOB will be constructed at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) station.

What's the story?

For the first time in CR’s history, the officials finalised the tender in 24 hours for a construction of the new foot-over-bridge (FOB) at LTT. On Thursday, November 16, 2017, around 12:00 noon, not only the tender was finalised but the workers commenced the work as well.

The FOB will be constructed at the CSTM end near the new station building of LTT. It will be 6 meters wide and will have a double span of 18 meters each, connecting all five platforms,” Sunil Udasi. PRO, Central Railway.

According to the railway officials, the estimated cost of a FOB is INR 2.97 crore and it is likely to be completed in next 6 months.
