The police has said that although the entry of heavy vehicles is prohibited on this route, the traffic of light vehicles will continue on the route.

Ghodbunder Road, one of the crucial route, will remain closed for the next few days owing to the repairing work of 700 meters long road in Gaimukh Ghat. The work of asphalting on this road has been undertaken by the Public Works Department from today, May 24, 2024.

Therefore, Thane Traffic Police has announced a ban on heavy vehicles on this route till June 6. In view of repair works, there is a possibility of massive traffic jams on the Thane, Ghodbunder, Mumbai-Ahmedabad route for the next few days.

The police has said that although the entry of heavy vehicles is prohibited on this route, the traffic of light vehicles will continue on the route.

There is a possibility that the traffic can be diverted to a single lane even while the repairs are underway. The road near the ghat on Ghodbunder Marg is very narrow.

Traffic changes for heavy vehicles are as follows – 

> Heavy/unwieldy vehicles coming from Gujarat via Ghodbunder towards Thane will be barred near Chinchoti Naka. These vehicles will ply from Chinchoti Naka via Kaman, Anjurphata-Mankoli, Bhiwandi.

> Heavy vehicles plying from Mumbai, Thane towards Ghodbunder will be restricted near Kapurbawdi Chowk and Majiwada. The vehicles here will proceed from Kapurbawadi traffic branch office via Kharegaon toll road, Mankoli, Anjurphata or Kasheli.

> Access to Kharegaon toll plaza will be closed for heavy vehicles coming from Mumbra, Kalwa towards Ghodbunder. These vehicles will pass under Kharegaon Khadi bridge via Kharegaon toll road, Mankoli.

> Entry of heavy vehicles from Nashik towards Ghodbunder will be prohibited at Mankoli port. These vehicles will have to go under the Mankoli Bridge via Anjurphata.

Ghodbunder Road is one of the major routes for trucks transporting goods by road outside the state. Thousands of vehicles carrying goods on Gujarat route from JNPT port in Mumbai, Gujarat, Bhiwandi and Uran pass through Ghodbunder Road. Along with heavy vehicles, this road is used extensively by light vehicle commuters from Mumbai, Vasai, Virar, Bhayander. Moreover, NMMT and TMT buses also ply on this route.
