Mumbai: Old man allegedly beaten up in Mumbai local train, dies

The dead body of a 65-year-old man was found in the local train compartment in CSMT- Titwala bound train. One person has been detained in this case.


The person found dead in the train compartment has been identified as Baban Hande. The Mumbai Police informed that he was a former employee of Mumbai Port Trust. During a heated argument with a passenger which later turned into a scuffle, Baban Hande died on the spot. Police gave this information on Friday.

The incident took place between Kalyan and Titwala station on the Central Railway line on Thursday afternoon. Other passengers caught the suspect and handed him over to the police.


An officer of the Government Railway Police (GRP) station said, “Hande boarded the luggage compartment of Mumbai- bound local train which started from Titwala around 2:00 pm. His co-passengers informed the police that he was lying in a pool of blood in the compartment at Kalyan station. After this, the police reached the spot.

He said that the passengers caught one person and handed him over to the police. The accused pushed the old man in the moving train, as a result of which his head hit an object and he fell down and died, the officer said. Officials said the detained person is being interrogated and CCTV footage is also being scrutinised.
