Over 5000 Auto Drivers Penalised as RTO Officials pose as Passengers

It's been a common practice for autorickshaw drivers to refuse short distance travelers, over-charge, carry more than 3 passengers and drive without a license or badge.

To curb these practices, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials conducted a drive in the city between February 28 to May 2 where they posed as passengers and were on a spree to catch defaulters. 

A total of 5,212 auto drivers were caught red-handed by the officials and 2,600 licenses were seized. Over 700 auto-rickshaw drivers' licenses were cancelled who refused to travel a short distance, over-charged, carried more than 3 passengers and were driving without a license or badge. Over 171 auto-rickshaws were also seized in the drive.
