It is well-known that rising pollution in Mumbai has made it difficult for us to get clean and pure oxygen. However, in these tough times, how does one get the same 24 hours a day. With an aim to solve this issue, the central railways have decided to set up 'Oxygen Parlors' across railway stations in the city.

The decision was taken as a part of the program where important schemes have been implemented by the central railways for the protection of the environment since the last few years.

Talking about the same, officials said that efforts are being made by the Railways to create environment-friendly railway stations. Similar plan was earlier implemented when 'Oxygen Parlor' was set up at Nashik Road station with an aim to provide clean air. The proposed plan in Mumbai will be implemented with the same motive. As per reports, a total of 18 types of high oxygen giving plants will be planted at Central Railway's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Dadar Terminus, Thane and Kalyan railway stations. Surveys have been conducted for the same and the tender for Oxygen Parlor will be issued in the next few days.

After completion of the tender process, an 'Oxygen Parlor' will be set up at these stations within 3 to 4 months.

Officials have stated that plants like Snake Plant, Arelia Bush, Dragon Bamboo, Chinese Bamboo, Moneyplant, Z Z Plant, Bonzai etc have been planted before in Nashik, and this is said to have helped in purifying the air and reducing pollution. A number of schemes have been implemented through the New Innovative Non-Fair Revenue Ideas Scheme (NINFRIS) to increase the productivity of Indian Railways, whereby Oxygen Parlor was started as a part of the same.

Experts state that railways are earning INR 75,000 a year through Oxygen Parlor, and at the same time, it is contributing to the betterment of the environment.
