On the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa, the state government decided to ban the use and manufacture of plastic in the state. Inspired by the same, and in a step to bring about a change, the Railways has also decided to take steps by avoiding the use of plastic at the stations.

As per reports, Western Railway and Central Railway officials have also decided that food items sold at stalls located at stations will not be sold in plastic, and the authorities have banned the sale of nearly 25 food items which were sold in plastic.

Further, the officials have also made an announcement that strict action will be taken against the individuals if they are found violating this rule.

Based on the data from previous years, the railways annually cleans the drains located in the railway premises and stations. The amount of garbage collected from these nullahs is in large quantities and 90 per cent of garbage is plastic. Further, this accumulated plastic in the drains leads to water logging on the railway tracks eventually leading to a delay or cancellation of the services.

Hope this move by the railway authorities brings a difference this year!
