This year, Mumbaikars have to shell out extra money to commute to Konkan, Goa to celebrate New Year as the fares of private buses have skyrocketed. Reservation of popular trains like Vande Bharat, Janshatabdi, Konkan Kanya, Tejas from Mumbai to Goa is over. Along with this, the air fare between Mumbai and Goa has increased from INR 5,000 to 32,000 leading people to opt for private buses. Passengers are also choosing air-conditioned sleeper buses. 

Goa has the highest demand at the end of the year. During this period there was one-way traffic from Mumbai to Goa. Most of the buses returning from Goa are almost empty. Many tourists prefer to celebrate the New Year in Goa. Hence, the fares are high.

Along with Goa, tourists prefer places like Mahabaleshwar, Lonavla-Khandala, Konkan coast, Daman, Silvassa to celebrate the new year, said a private transporter. Bus fares from Mumbai to Goa which otherwise ranges between INR 800 and INR 1000 have now increased from INR 2,000 to INR 5,000


Private bus fares for various routes from Mumbai are as follows:

  • Mumbai to Vaibhavwadi: INR 900–1,000
  • Mumbai to Guhagar: INR 600–1,500
  • Mumbai to Chiplun: INR 900–5,000
  • Mumbai to Sawantwadi: INR 900–3,500
  • Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar: INR 500–3,700
  • Mumbai to Lonavala: INR 550–3,000
