Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the regular operations of the passenger trains have been shut in the country since March 22. Since then, a few special trains have resumed operations for the benefit of the essential service workers. The Central Government had also started the 'shramik' trains to make sure that the labourers from across the nation can get back to their respective hometowns along with their families.

As Ganeshotsav is only a month away, some devotees in Maharashtra are eager to travel to their villages to celebrate the festival. It has been reported that on the occasion of Ganeshotsav, the Konkan Passenger Association in Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan, has demanded the release of special trains to go to Konkan. The Association has reportedly formed its own organizations and has started a WhatsApp campaign as well. Kamble, the representative of the organization has said that the campaign had made an appeal to the people to send a photograph of themselves dressed in a black outfit along with their full name, current place of residence and taluka to the organization's WhatsApp number 7021916151 or 08976020793.

Yashwant Jadyarhe, the secretary of Vasai-Sawantwadi Railway Passengers Association has said that the campaign will continue for a whole week. The campaign is said to be forwarded to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a week. The organization has also said that if the state plans of releasing ST buses for the same, the price for the ticket should not change.

In light of this situation, the Gram Panchayats of some villages in Konkan have now decided to make the travelers stay in isolation for 14 days if they enter the village on the occasion of Ganeshotsav. At present, the state government has not given any information about the release of any ST buses or special trains for Konkan.
