Post-Elphinstone stampede, Indian railways started building the foot-over-bridge (FOB) on Elphinstone, Currey Road and Ambivli with the help of military personnel. The work is said to be completed by January 31, 2018.
To check the status of work, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal paid a visit to Elphinstone station on Monday. He believes that the work will be completed before the estimated time. Along with scrutinising the work, he also traveled from Parel to CST around 4:30 pm.
Military’s Bombay Engineering Group is aiming to complete the FOB in three months. On Monday, during a visit, Goyal confirmed that once the FOB is completed, it will be thrown open to the public.
Goyal also clarified that Currey Road’s FOB will take some time while Ambivli FOB will be completed in the said time. He added that 17 zone officers will check the FOB after its completion.
In the coming years, railways will build 372 escalators in Mumbai and 3000 escalators across India.
