Two months ago, when Western Railway's (WR) General A. K. Gupta went on a regular inspection drive, he observed that the logo in the women's compartment is obsolete and doesn't hold any significance in today's day and age. Taking under consideration the changing times and realising that a picture of a woman in a veil over her head depicts the olden times and fails to depict today's reality, he decided that the logo should be changed into a woman wearing a formal suit.

As most of the women commuters are working, it would be the right decision to keep a logo that would be relatable to them. Along with change in the logo, the compartments will also have posters of inspirational women like Saina Nehwal, Kalpana Chawla and Mithali Raj who have made the country proud with the success they've achieved in their respective fields.

Western Railways Chief Public Relation Officer, Ravinder Bhakar said that the idea was to adopt an icon that will do justice and represent today’s women in this city, who are independent and successful. Notably, Railways is also installing a 'talk back' facility for women so that they can directly talk to the motorman or guard in case of an emergency, which will serve as an impetus to their safety.
