The Railways have decided to run private trains from Mumbai, in a move towards privatization. This route includes the Howrah-Mumbai via Bilaspur railway station.

Moreover, the Railways has decided to run private trains on 40 routes from Mumbai. As per reports, last year IRCTC had started operating the first private train as a fast express between Lucknow and Delhi.

According to the railways, the motive behind the scheme is to reduce maintenance costs, develop new technology with shorter transit time, increase job opportunities, provide better safety and world-class travel experience to passengers. The Tejas and Vandebharat trains run by IRCTC have been replaced by TTE staff.

The 109-pair route will be in 12 clusters on the Indian railway network. Each train will have at least 16 coaches. The maximum speed of all trains running on these routes will be 160 km/h. According to the sources, most of these modern trains will be built in India under Make in India.

Meanwhile, as many as 23 companies, including popular names like Bombardier, Alstom, Siemens and GMR have shown interest in running private trains in the country and participated in an official pre-application online conference held Wednesday, August 12, as a prelude to the Request for Qualification. In the first meeting, 16 companies had participated as the country opens its rail sector to private firms to run passenger trains.
