As the Mumbai Division of Western Railway has fixed the age-old speed restrictions on tracks, the suburban local trains from today, December 6, will be a bit faster helping passengers to save overall journey time.

The Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) at Marine Lines of 20 kmph has been removed which helps commuters to save a 3.5-minute per train or 560 minutes per day.

The railways undertook several major works on the line to remove operational bottlenecks and in train operations.

With this, the punctuality of Mumbai suburban trains has increased from 95 per cent in the year 2019-20 to 99.3 per cent in the year 2021-22 after successfully removing several bottlenecks on the operational lines.

Railways said that the Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 20 kmph on Marine Lines has been removed, resulting in a saving of 2 minutes per train i.e. 560 minutes in a day. It will also enhance mobility and safety of trains.

The PSR of 60 kmph between Bandra and Khar section has also been removed, saving 1.25 minutes per train or 307 minutes per day. The three-line crossover at Santacruz has been converted into a two-line crossover, due to which the officials can increase the speed from 15 kmph to 30 kmph.

The speed on crossover 145/146 at Dadar has been increased from 15 kmph to 30 kmph, which will enable faster receipt and dispatch of trains from Platform 6.

Similarly, the speed at cross over 101/102 at Bhayander has been increased to 30 kmph from 15 kmph, resulting in savings of 1.25 min for each train. In addition, the common loop at Bhayander has been made fit for passenger trains, which will help in better operational flexibility for prioritising the trains.
