The Mumbai–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to undergo its final trial at Bengaluru's KSR railway station before being introduced for passengers. Once operational, it will become India's fastest overnight train on the route.
The 16-coach sleeper train will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and KSR Bengaluru, offering a faster and more comfortable travel option between Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Developed by BEML using technology from Chennai's Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the train is designed to operate at speeds of up to 180 kmph. It is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The train has a capacity of 823 passengers and includes 11 AC 3-tier coaches with 611 berths, four AC 2-tier coaches with 188 berths, and one First AC coach.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had announced in May that the service would be launched soon. However, railway officials said the train will begin operations only after all safety trials are completed and the necessary approvals are obtained.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is currently stationed at Bengaluru for testing and has not yet been inducted into the Indian Railways fleet. The new service is also expected to benefit passengers travelling via Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and Pune.
