In recent developments, the state government has issued new guidelines for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) in view of the pandemic and the rising number of coronavirus cases.

The fresh guidelines are as follows:

  • The essential service personnel will only be allowed to travel by the ST bus.
  • Out of 16,000 ST Corporation vehicles, 50 per cent of the local level depot managers will get on the road.
  • Only doctors/paramedical/laboratory technicians/hospital and medical hospital officials-staff will be given tickets on the basis of the identity card issued by their medical institutions.
  • Anyone who needs medical treatment, an additional person can accompany them in order to help them commute.
  • Controls for private buses for inter-district or inter-city travel.
  • Bus operators should stop at only two places in the city and inform the local disaster management authority about its schedule and stop.
  • Local disaster management officials may suggest changes if needed.
  • Passengers disembarking at all stops will have to bear the stamp and the bus company will do the work of stamping this seal.
  • Thermal scanners will be used and if any person develops symptoms they will be referred to the Corona Care Centre (CCC) or a hospital.

The first wave of the coronavirus affected a large number of emergency services personnel. This included health workers, cleaners, police personnel. At the same time, many in the ST Corporation were infected with COVID-19.
