If reports are to be believed, the minimum fare of kaali-peeli taxis are likely to hike from June 1.

This development comes as the price of CNG in Mumbai and neighbouring cities further hiked by INR 4 per kg from Saturday morning, April 30. With this, it has reached to an all-time high of INR 76 per kg at fuel pumps. In the last few days, the price of CNG has increased from INR 51.98 to INR 76.

Therefore, Mumbai Taximen's Union leader A L Quadros has threatened that if the state does not increase fares by May 15, kaali-peeli taxi drivers will hike fares on their own from June 1.

According to reports, the organizations have demanded the Transport Department to increase the fare by at least five rupees. However, if the department fails to take a decision, taxi associations have warned of a hike of INR 5 in fares in Mumbai from June 1.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Autorickshawmen's Union will also push for a INR 2 hike in fares of three-wheelers.

The union leaders have warned that said auto drivers will take a morcha in protest to the MGL office on May 17.

It has come to light that due to COVID-19 induced lockdown and amid rising concerns over skyrocket high fuel rates, the unions have been demanding a hike for quite some time now. Though there has been no response from the transport department. MMRTA will take a final call on any fare hike for Mumbai, reports stated.
