Until now, people believed that Dombivali and Kalyan stations were crowded. But, Thane station has burst the bubble and has emerged as the most crowded station on the central line.
The statistics presented by Central Railway (CR) made it clear that Thane station is the most crowded. Until now, Dombivali station held the top spot, not once but thrice. It is now followed by Kurla, Kalyan, Ghatkopar, and CSTM.
According to railway officials, Thane, Kurla, and Kalyan are not only crowded stations but they generate extra income for railways as well.
Thane station received the title of the most crowded station due to its trans-harbour route. In 2017, in total, 78,762 tickets were sold which generated ₹22.52 lakh income. However, officials added that CSTM which has maximum footfall has witnessed the decline in the same.
