The Mumbai Traffic Police has announced vehicular restrictions in a particular area of South Mumbai from February 16, 2022 to September 30 next year, 2023.

This notification was issued on Wednesday, February 16, as MMRDA has taken up work for Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector.

According to an official statement by Mumbai Police, the Jagannath Bhatankar Marg will remain a No Entry for vehicular traffic for nearly a year and a half.

Owing to this, the city traffic police suggested an alternative route and said that motorists on Jagannath Bhatankar Marg from Elphinstone Junction can take a left turn then proceed through the south-bound of Senapati Bapat Marg and take a right turn from Vadacha Naka towards NM Joshi Marg, Dhanmill Naka.

The restrictions have been put in place to prevent and inconvenience to the public, said police.

However, it is pertinent to note that its development comes ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector project seems to be Aaditya Thackeray’s pet project. The project directly lands in his Worli constituency, thereby raising interest level for him to showcase himself as a performing MLA.

For those unversed, the project is planned to connect this 4.5-km-long elevated project with the two sea links – Bandra Worli Sea Link and Coastal Road with the under-construction Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, to cut down on travel time at an estimated cost of INR 1,276 crores.
