Cab aggregator Uber has introduced a free urban planning tool ‘Movement in Mumbai’ in order to help the government and keep city planners informed about their decisions on infrastructure, urban mobility, and traffic management.
Last month, this data-sharing exercise was launched in Delhi and now will be replicated in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai Police welcomed the move adding that Uber’s initiative has a potential to provide an insight into how people get around Mumbai and improve transport planning in the city.
As per the April study conducted by consulting firm BCG, traffic congestion during peak hours in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata costs the economy a whopping $22 million annually.
Prabhjeet Singh, Regional General Manager, Uber India and South Asia, shared his plans of harnessing the power of technology towards data-driven policy-making through movement.
