Cab aggregator giant Uber has become a popular name in the city for its services, and now after taking over the roads, it is being said that Uber will soon start boat services in Mumbai, starting from the Gateway of India.

Uber has not given any confirmation about the same, but reports indicate that the services may be offered from the gateway to Mandwa jetty. Passengers will be able to use the 6-8 seater speedboats to book a seat or the entire boat, 15 minutes before the service begins.

Currently, the boat service from the above-mentioned destinations take almost an hour, but it is expected that Uber services will reduce the time by only 20-22 minutes.

In a recently held event, MbPT chairman Sanjay Bhatia also announced that the port trust plans to bring a world-class water transport facility to Mumbai, thereby making it a hub for sea transport and tourism. Officials have added that if the Uber services show success, the same model could be replicated for other destinations in the near future.
