Could we see a Dubai-Mumbai underwater rail link in the future?

Soon, Mumbaikars might get a chance to travel from Mumbai to Dubai and vice versa via an underwater rail link. According to a report in Khaleej Times, UAE is planning to develop underwater rail link between Fujairah, UAE and Mumbai, India.

Apart from the rail network passenger transit, there are plans of facilitating goods exchange from India to UAE and oil export through a pipeline as well, stated the report.

This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import".

Alshehhi further said that initially there will be a feasibility study of the project to find out whether it is possible for such a rail network to work.
