The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Domestic Terminal (T1) Junction is anticipated to have a major reduction in traffic owing to the newly inaugurated two-lane one-way flyover at Vile Parle on the Western Express Highway (WEH). The traffic at T1 Junction is known for traffic jams as it gets choked by vehicles during peak hours. After much anticipation, the flyover has finally opened up a new and efficient path to facilitate traffic from the International Airport T2 heading towards Bandra. This will prevent traffic jams, cut down on pollution, and will increase passenger safety on the WEH.

Including the length of the approaches, the flyover is 790 metres long. It spans 8 metres in width and extends between Nandgiri Guest House and Sai Baba Mandir in Bhajiwadi to handle the Bandra-bound traffic from International Airport T2. Furthermore, the raised flyover is strategically placed on the WEH at the parallel end of the Juhu-Vile Parle elevated flyover.

As per the report by News 18, the construction of the flyover also saw the implementation of various innovative processes including the use of steel and prestressed concrete (PSC) girders. The spans, which are 74m (46 m + 28 m) in length, were launched using inverted T arrangements. This method offered a significant decrease in traffic interruptions by enabling the steel and PSC girders to be launched without the need for any temporary supports at all.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that this year is a great start for Maharashtra, especially for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with the inaugurations, as well as the ceremonial beginnings, of various infrastructural marvels. He said that his government stands together with the MMRDA as a consistent source of guidance, advice, and motivation in its goal of transforming the urban infrastructure of the MMR, every step of the way.

Between the T2 Junction to Bandra, the flyover will facilitate more efficient traffic flow. The traffic congestion from the "T2 Terminal" to Bandra and traffic from Andheri to the T1 Terminal/Vile Parle, in particular, would be eliminated by the new flyover. In addition, the intersections beneath the WEH will be cleared of traffic, which will allow for improved connectivity, shorter travel times, and less fuel usage. Additionally, there will be an expansion in the capacity of traffic travelling from International Airport T2 to Bandra.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Commissioner of MMRDA, said that their dedication to fusing the benefits of innovation with the unwavering ideal of sustainability has greatly aided them in enforcing their goal for the MMR's citizens.
