The Western and Central Railways are to run special trains from Mumbai beginning this week.

As per reports, on Western Railways, there will be eight trains, namely, the Mumbai Central-Indore Superfast Avantika Express, Mumbai Central-Okha Superfast Saurashtra Mail and Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Superfast Express from October 15. In addition, Bandra Terminus-Lucknow Superfast Express, Bandra Terminus-Bhuj AC Express, Bandra Terminus–H Nizamuddin Yuva Express and Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Tejas Express are to run as well.

Moreover, on Central Railways, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Kamakhya AC Weekly is touted to run.

The Bombay High Court had earlier appealed to the state government of Maharashtra with regards to the Mumbai Local Services. As of now, the suburban railways are being used by employees engaged in essential services, however, since the last few months, the number of commuters has increased, especially during the peak hours, as the officials have received several complaints regarding the same.

The state of Maharashtra is under the fifth phase of unlocking. In view of lockdown relaxations, the state has allowed several services, malls, restaurants, bars, eateries, hotels, and private offices to resume operations, with a preset maximum capacity.

Meanwhile, the government offices and essential services are also functioning with 100 per cent staff capacity. As a consequence, it is necessary for the government to increase the number of services, as it could avoid congestion on the Western, Central and Harbour routes.
