Passengers travelling on Western Railway will now have to spend more on breakfast and lunch at station canteens as authorities have imposed a price hike of up to 20 percent on various types of food items. The revised rates, effective from July 1, 2025, are now applicable to all canteens and platform stalls under the jurisdiction of Western Railway.
Snacks like a single potato vada, samosa, and sabudana vada are now priced at INR 15 each. Popular items such as 100 grams of dhokla served with tomato ketchup are available for INR 25, while heartier options like chole rice (320 grams) and stuffed paratha (315 grams) served with curd and pickle are priced at INR 40.
The revised menu also introduces millet-based items, reflecting a healthier twist. Millet thepla (100 grams) is available for INR 100, millet chakli (100 grams) for INR 75, and millet poha (100 grams) for INR 100. Millet cookies are priced at INR 25, and khakhra is available for INR 75.

Among other updates, Dabeli (80 grams) is now priced at INR 20, Shev Puri (six pieces, 150 grams) at INR 45, and Veg Hot Dog (65 grams) at INR 35. Cheese or Paneer Rolls (90 grams) are being sold for INR 50, while grilled sandwiches (180 grams) are priced at INR 80. For those seeking a healthy beverage option, a glass of fresh mixed vegetable juice (200 ml) is available for INR 30. Additionally, Ragada Pattice (125 grams) is priced at INR 45 for passengers.
The circular issued on Tuesday said that all pre-packaged items sold must match the weight and maximum retail price (MRP) approved by the zonal railways. Prior permission from zonal authorities is now mandatory before selling any branded packaged food products.
According to railway officials, the decision to revise the prices was taken due to the increase in input costs including raw materials, packaging and labour. The new prices also include standardised portion sizes and weight specifications to ensure consistency and transparency for passengers.
