At present, there are two railway lines between Kalyan and Badlapur, on which local, long-distance trains and freight trains run. Therefore, there is heavy traffic on the two lanes. Also, the punctuality of the local train from Badlapur to CSMT has completely deteriorated. Also, due to the increase in population in Vithalwadi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, passengers are demanding more local trips. For this, it will be possible to increase the extra local trains by constructing a third and fourth track between Kalyan-Badlapur and setting up a separate rail line dedicated entirely for local trains, an MRVC official said.

Drone survey of this project has been completed. General plans for stations, railway yards and bridges have been approved. Out of 9.9 hectares of private land, 8.45 hectares of land has been acquired. So, land acquisition of 2.82 hectares of government land has been completed. First phase approval for acquisition of 0.25 hectare forest land has been received. So, an application has been submitted for second phase approval. The tendering process for various components including construction of all flyovers, water and other channel bridges and new stations is in the final stage, an MRVC official said.
