A lifestyle event with Creative Industries from Sweden in Mumbai

The Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai is hosting Swedish Style Mumbai! a lifestyle event on June 4-5, 2019 at The Famous Studios, Mahalakshmi, Mumbai showcasing the different sectors of Sweden’s creative industries including fashion, design, architecture, photography, fine arts, film, technology, gastronomy and music in an integrated way.

Swedish Style Mumbai! aims to launch a closer collaboration between Indian and Swedish creative industries, boost bilateral relations and provide a platform for Swedish designers, architects, entrepreneurs, artists, chefs, and companies to synergize with their Indian counterparts, to create new opportunities and offer new solutions for business & lifestyle concepts.

“For two days, there will be sustainable, conscious and interactive “live-in” exhibition — a curated experience for networking and discussions on creativity, co-creation, democratic design, gender, functionality, sustainability, and circular economy challenges. Invited guests will share ideas and thoughts, make connections, reflections and create new contacts in a stimulating, inspiring and thought-provoking ambiance,” said Ms. Ulrika Sundberg, Consul General of Sweden to Mumbai.

“There is more to Swedish style than the cool contemporary minimalism it is known for. Swedish design & creativity is driven by equality. That is why we design for the many and not just the privileged few. It is made to be used and used again. This philosophy influences everything, from the way we shape our society through architecture and city planning all the way down to the way we dress – and the objects we surround ourselves with. Design is used as a tool to innovate and solve problems in unexpected ways for the future, “Ms. Sundberg added.

Swedish Style Mumbai! will see Sweden’s leading brands such as H&M, Toteme, Eytys, Hope, Our Legacy, Selam Fessahaye, MaxJenny, By Malina from the field of fashion; soon-to-be-launched interior giant IKEA, auto major Volvo Group as well as start-ups like Ride Cake (Cake is an award-winning start-up electronic motorcycle brand with a pioneering off-road model) Blue Air (leading producers of air purification solutions for home and professional use), Airinum (a start-up brand with fashionable collection of urban air masks and health accessories).

In addition, artists including world-renowned photographers such as  Mikael Jansson (fashion), Frederik Lieberath (still life and landscape), Julia Hetta (fashion & art) as well as leading artists such as Karin Mamma, Andersson, Anna Camner, Hanna Michanek (the latter two celebrated young artists with a surrealistic perspective on nature), architect and design studios such as Belatchew Arkitekter and Front as well as film director Jonas Åkerlund will be showcased at the event.

The event is conceptualized in collaboration with Claes and Christina of BrittonBritton, a creative husband and wife team from Sweden. Swedish Style events have in the past been organized and received great success in Milan, New York and Tokyo amongst other fashion capitals, before arriving in Mumbai.

To engage the future generation, the Consulate has teamed with design schools of the region to provide an opportunity for students to attend and get exposure to Swedish design and designers.
