गेली चार दशक रुपेरी पडदा आणि रंगमंच गाजवणाऱ्या ज्येष्ठ अभिनेत्री रीमा लागू यांचे हृदयविकाराच्या झटक्याने अकस्मिक निधन झाले. त्या 59 वर्षांच्या होत्या. गुरुवारी मुंबईच्या कोकिलाबेन रुग्णालयात त्यांची प्राणज्योत मालवली. आपल्या ४ दशकांच्या कारकिर्दीत रीमा लागू यांनी अनेक सिनेमे आणि टीव्ही मालिका गाजवल्या. त्यांना ‘मैने प्यार किया’ (१९९०), ‘आशिकी’ (१९९१), ‘हम आपके है कौन’ (१९९५) आणि ‘वास्तव’ (२०००) या चित्रपटांतील भूमिकांसाठी फिल्मफेअरमध्ये सहाय्यक अभिनेत्रीच्या पुरस्कारासाठी नामांकन मिळाले होते.
रीमा लागू सध्या नामकरण नावाची हिंदी मालिका करत होत्या. बुधवारी त्यांनी या मालिकेच्या एका भागात लग्नप्रसंगाचे चित्रीकरणही केले. ते संपवून त्या रात्री घरी गेल्या. तेव्हा त्यांची प्रकृती ठीक होती. रात्री त्यांच्या छातीत दुखू लागल्याने त्यांच्या कुटुंबियांनी त्यांना अंधेरीतल्या कोकिळाबेन रुग्णालयात दाखल केले. पण पहाटे 3.15 वाजता त्यांची प्राणज्योत मालवली. त्यांचा जन्म 1958 मध्ये पुण्यात झाला होता. मिळालेल्या माहितीनुसार ओशिवरातल्या स्मशानभूमीत गुरुवारी दुपारी 2 वाजता त्यांच्यावर अंत्यसंस्कार केले जातील.
‘सविता दामोदर परांजपे’, ‘विठो रखुमाय’, ‘घर तिघांचं हवं’, ‘चल आटप लवकर’, ‘झाले मोकळे आकाश’, ‘तो एक क्षण’, ‘पुरुष बुलंद’ अशी अनेक नाटके त्यांनी गाजवली. बॉलिवूडची ‘फेव्हरेट मॉम’ म्हणूनही त्या ओळखल्या जायच्या. 'मैने प्यार किया', 'हम साथ साथ हैं', 'आशिकी', 'साजन', 'हम आपके है कौन', 'कुछ कुछ होता है' या गाजलेल्या बॉलिवूड सिनेमांमधील त्यांनी निभावलेली आईची व्यक्तिरेखा प्रेक्षकांच्या मनावर छाप टाकणारी आहे. यासोबतच दूरदर्शनवरच्या 'तूतू मैमै' या मालिकेतील त्यांनी निभावलेली सासूची व्यक्तिरेखाही प्रेक्षकांच्या चांगल्याच पसंतीस उतरली. स्टार प्लसवर येणाऱ्या 'नामकरण' या हिंदी मालिकेत खलनायिकेची भूमिका त्यांची छोट्या पडद्यावरील शेवटची भूमिका ठरली.
रीमा लागू यांच्या निधनाचे वृत्त समजल्यानंतर विविध स्तरातून शोक व्यक्त केला जात आहे.
