Two separate accidents were reported on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the early hours of Monday. Three people were killed while 10 others were injured as a result of these accidents.
The first accident took place near Narhe (Pune) when two trucks collided with each other. It is said that both trucks were heading towards Mumbai when the accident occurred with two people dying while one sustained injuries after the horrific crash.

The second accident occurred near Ravet in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region of the expressway. In this case, a bus collided with a truck, killing one and injuring nine others. Locals and officials have transferred the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the two accidents. In the meanwhile, a response team along with the police arrived at the spot soon after the accidents and cleared the debris from the road.
Road accidents and fatalities in Mumbai have seen a spike as of recently. Though there was a reduction in road fatalities during the COVID-19 lockdown, more accidents are reported since the state reopened the economy.
A recent report suggested that despite the restrictions, around 10,000 people had died from road accidents in 2020, indicating that a lot of work needs to go into road safety and mitigation measures.
