One of the world’s biggest and most prestigious film festivals, Jio MAMI is all set to enthral its audience with world cinema and much more. After a three-year hiatus, cinema lovers will get to see over 250 films in a span of 10 days. This year, the festival will focus on South Asian and South Asian Diaspora cinema and talent.

Mumbai’s cinematographer Omkar Phatak has found a reason to be happy as his first short film in fiction has made a cut to the JIO MAMI film festival. He has written as well as directed the film 'Goodbye, Hello' that revolves around a girl who has to fulfil the one last wish of a ghost before the night ends. He has directed short formats in non-fiction and documentary as well.

“We went into preparation by putting the core team together, presenting the vision of the film to everyone involved, and chalking out the production plan in detail with regard to every department, and the project went on the floor within a month's time of prep work. There were extensive location scouts done to find the correct terrace, auditioning for the cast, costume meetings, visual breakdowns of the film, and long productive rehearsals for all departments,” he said.

Phatak explained that he wants the audience to look at the theme of 'Death' from a child-like perspective.

“I wanted the film to talk about life and death without really talking about life and death. I remember as a child losing someone very important to me at a young delicate age and not being able to emotionally comprehend where this person is now in the world. A part of me believes that this played a very silent, secretive role subconsciously while bringing this film to life. From a narrative standpoint, I also wanted to explore the concept of telepathy as communication at the core of the film, making the film engaging in an unusually interactive way”.

He spoke about the challenges he faced while filming, including convincing the building committees of the unpredictable weather and an intense full-night schedule.

“We are absolutely enthralled to have our ’Asia Premiere’ at MAMI 2023 this month. It is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the country and draws a film-loving audience to the theatres which is what I or any other filmmaker would genuinely want their films to have,” said Omkar with a glee.

The main cast of the film includes Zahara Sethjiwala who plays 'The Human'. She is an Indian television actress and has done significant roles in daily soaps like 'Bakula Bua ka Bhoot' and 'Bhabhiji Gharpar Hai'. Aditya Ravi will be seen portraying the character of 'The Ghost', who is a Whistling Woods International alumni and has done some critically acclaimed short films in the past, amongst his other commercial work.
