Music as an art form is 'universal' that knows no boundaries. However, there are novel instruments and styles of music that could be wiped off, if awareness in its regard is not created. To bridge this gap between information and awareness, a Mumbai-based global music company, BeatCurry came into the arena.

Here, one can find industry news, editorials, features, music reviews, featuring and promoting genuine talents, and podcasts to exclusive interviews under the all-inclusive banner of music. A year since its inception it has attained acclaim from the 'StartUpIndia' and MSME sector of the Govt. of India.

In a conversation with Mumbai Live, Yash Warrier, Founder and Director at BeatCurry dwells on his journey, inspiration, the contemporary facet of the industry and how Mumbai fits into it all. Warrier said, “The whole idea came from my observation of the industry from a musician's perspective. My journey began at the age of five, learning the Mridangam and Carnatic vocals, Hindustani singing and playing Jazz on the piano.”

He added, “Pursuing my passion, I started developing an interest and fascination for the rich musical heritage India is blessed with. I also started exploring the music of other countries.” “Coming from this space, I used to question the minimal information and coverage that these forms of rare, unique and global music arts have received over the years. A strong believer of music being universal, I felt that there's so much more to music than what we get to see,” he remarked.

Elaborating on how the company attempts to offer a platform to the voices of unheard musicians, Warrier articulated, "We research about versatile musicians and their stories from across India. We then reach out to those artists, cover, interview or document their musical journey and share it with our audience. We also curate artist-centric content, highlighting their music, journey and talent. Any artists from around the world can reach out to us with their songs/singles/albums and have them reviewed which we promote through our social media."

"For instance our SoundTrek musical expedition to Jaipur and Jaisalmer introduced us to many young and aspiring folk artists, street musicians and players who have throughout been the undiscovered gems of our heritage. We interacted with and documented their art giving them visibility," Warrier enunciated.

The discussion with Mumbai Live then shifts gears to how BeatCurry has been able to make the masses aware of forgotten music amid the "trend' driven industry. Warrier opined that the role of audio-visual content is to generate curiosity and add value and experience to people, by packaging content in a modern, relatable and simple manner to touch the masses. "In a larger trend-driven industry, to create viral and meaningful content, we follow and work on certain principles. At the very start, it begins with us-spreading the word in our circles to build like-minded communities in order to generate repeat customers," he articulated.

Additionally, he declared that in today's world, social media has the potential to be a catalyst to constructively power the recorded and live music industry. To this end, he maintains that digital media can be utilized to have more stories and coverage of versatile artists, work on artist search and discover mechanisms that reach the demographic.

"Media partners, promoters, labels, music platforms, venues and listeners can strongly come forward in this area. Collective efforts and initiatives taken to promote new and versatile art and artists shall pave the way forward towards an exceptionally vibrant music scene," he voiced.

As a Mumbai-based global music company, Warrier shared his two cents on the city's music industry. He believes that while the audience in Mumbai has welcomed music of practically all genres and styles, they must also work towards expanding their spectrum by knowing and listening to new styles of music, reading about legendary artists who have represented and popularized those genres and know about today's artists who are paving the way forward. "As listeners, people must show up in huge numbers for the artists they support, try out new music experiences, expand their network and spread the word," he exclaimed.

BeatCurry's association with some of the finest artists of the music industry is a testament to its distinctive operational approach. During their launch, they received the support of maestros such as Jazz icon and legend Louiz Banks, Sitar Maestro Purbayan Chatterjee, Tabla exponent Ojas Adhiya, Pianist & Prodigy-world's Best' Award Winner Lydian Nadhaswaram, Ace Bassist Mohini Dey, Ace Guitarist Rhythm Shaw.

With their podcasts, they invited and interviewed over 80 artists from across the globe and reviewed the music of over 100 artists. BeatCurry has had the opportunity to interact with legendary artists such as Dr L. Subramaniam, and Padma Shri. Kavita Krishnamurthi, World's Fastest Guitarist Davide Lo Surdo, GRAMMY awardee Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, ace Guitarists Chandresh Kudwa, and Rhythm Shaw amongst other global artists.
