Spanning approximately 12.2 kilometres, the corridor will directly link Goregaon in the western suburbs to Mulund in the eastern suburbs. Once operational, the road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two areas from nearly 90 minutes to about 20 minutes, offering major relief to commuters.
The GMLR project is being developed in multiple phases and includes the construction of flyovers, elevated roads, and interchanges. A key highlight of the project is a twin tunnel passing beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and the Aarey area, designed to streamline traffic movement and reduce congestion on existing east–west routes.
