For a long time now, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been away from the silver screen. She was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, and since then she has been prepping for her anticipated role of her upcoming film.

The trailer of Meghna Gulzar's much awaited film, Chhapaak, was released at an event in Mumbai. Present at the event was the cast of the film which stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in the lead roles. 


Inspired by the life of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Aggarwal, Chhapaak revolves around how Malti fought for her right, despite all the obstacles. Today, Laxmi has become a voice for those who have faced the henious crime and continues to fight for their justice. Popular Vikrant Massey will be seen as social activist, Amol, who eventually becomes her partner. His character is inspired by Alok Dixit.

Chhapaak also marks Deepika's first film as a producer and the actress took to Twitter in December 2018 to annunce the same. The shoot of the film began in March 2019 and was completed in June 2019. The screenplay of the film is written by Atika Chouhan and Meghna Gulzar. 

Produced by Fox Star Studious, the film will hit the screens on on January 10, 2020
