On June 14, 2020, Indian Cinema lost a bright and talented star. One year later, Sushant Singh Rajput is still terribly missed.

The actor’s untimely and unfortunate demise shook the entire film fraternity, his friends, fans and family. He was 34.

His death was extremely sensationalised in the media. Days after he died, some social media users claimed that he was forced to hang himself because a few powerful Bollywood families and directors had treated him unfairly. There are also a few that believe that the actor was murdered and did not hang himself.

It is said he was an outsider who had no "godfather" in the industry, and that his rise was unacceptable to certain Bollywood dynasties. They pointed to recent reports of him being sidelined after he was promised roles in big-budget films.

The allegations led to a severe backlash on social media against some A-rated actors, directors and producers. Many movies were trolled during the last year as a part of the protest and there were also trends of Boycott Bollywood.

After an unexplained hiatus of 40 days after his death, Sushant’s family alleged foul play. The spotlight then shifted to Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family, whom Sushant’s father Krishna Kishore Singh accused of siphoning off INR 15 crore from his account and having abetted in his suicide.

The Mumbai police, NCB and CBI are still investigating what led to the actor's death. They have interviewed more than 50 people from the film industry to find out if there is enough evidence to file abetment of suicide charges. The officers are yet to file a final report.

Kedarnath


Abhishek Kapoor's film which was based on the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. In this movie, Sushant Singh Rajput essayed the role of a simple local porter, who helps pilgrims reach the temple. The film which raked in INR 70 crores at the box office also marked the debut of Sara Ali Khan in Bollywood. Sushant and Sara's on-screen chemistry won hearts. This movie is streaming on ZEE5.

MS Dhoni

M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story was based on the life of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The movie was directed by Neeraj Pandey and starred Sushant Singh Rajput as Dhoni, along with Disha Patani, Kiara Advani, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.

The film was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2016 and Sushant received wide praises for his role.

The film was well-received by the audience and went on to earn a staggering figure of INR 119.09 crores at the box office. Watch this movie on Hotstar.

Kai Po Che!

This was Sushant's debut film wherein he played the role of Ishaan. He bagged the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance in this movie. Kai Po Che! was based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life'. The movie helped Sushant gain stardom. You can watch this film on Netflix.

Chhichhore


Sushant's second last film 'Chhichhore' turned out to be one of the most successful films of 2019 as it managed to earn INR 147.32 crores in the domestic circuit itself.

The Nitesh Tiwari directorial which revolved around friendship turned out to be a blockbuster with critics and audience all praising Sushant, Shraddha Kapoor and the ensemble supporting star cast of the film. It is streaming on Disney +Hotstar.

Sonchiriya


This Sushant Singh starrer film, which was directed by Abhishek Chaubey, didn’t do well at the box office, but it had won lots of awards and was critically acclaimed.

The movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey, and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles. You can watch Sonchiriya on Zee5.
