The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 25 has summoned 12 actors and directors, including Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, Mumaith Khan, among others, in a four-year-old drug case. Rakul Preet Singh has been asked to appear on September 6, Baahubali actor Rana Daggubati on September 8, Ravi Teja on September 9 and director Puri Jagannadh on September 31.

In 2017, these 12 actors and directors were questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as part of a high-end drug racket. Rakul Preet Singh and Rana Daggubati have not been named as accused but been summoned as witnesses.   Commenting on this development, a senior official of the agency told the news agencies, "It is premature to say whether they are involved in money laundering."

The Special Investigation Team of Hyderabad Excise And Prohibition Department in July 2017 launched an investigation to probe money laundering. Till date, 12 cases have been registered and drugs worth ₹30 lakh have been seized. Additionally, charge sheets have been filed for 11 cases.

As per reports, there have been 30 arrests conducted based on the investigation by SIT. Furthermore, 62 additional people were questioned by the Telangana Excise Department in connection with the drugs case. Out of these, 11 people questioned have links to the film industry. When the investigations started, SIT had also collected hair and nail samples of 62 suspects including the film personalities.

As per the report, Rafael Alex Victor, a South African national was arrested by SIT in 2017 for allegedly supplying cocaine from Mumbai to Hyderabad.
