UNDP felicitates Sonu Sood with the 'Special Humanitarian Action Award'

This was presented to Sood on the evening of September 29, 2020, at a virtual event. UNDP India took to Twitter to share the statement regarding the same. Renowned actress Priyanka Chopra congratulated Sonu Sood on his efforts.

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood is not only known for his role in films but over the last few months, he has been in the news because of the help he has extended to millions of people during the pandemic. Sood was no less than a superhero during the first few months of coronavirus outbreak, where he donned the role of an angel for the needy.

For the unaware, he helped millions of needy people through various means. While some received financial assistance, some were helped as per needs. Millions of migrants were sent home in private buses, as Sonu Sood and his team arranged the necessary means of transport during the lockdown.

Keeping these efforts in mind, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has honored him with the prestigious Special Humanitarian Action Award. This was presented to Sood on the evening of September 29, 2020, at a virtual event.

Previously, popular names like Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Liam Neeson, Kate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Priyanka Chopra and many others have been honoured by the UN organizations.

Appreciating his work, Priyanka Chopra took to social media to congratulate him and said, "Congratulations Sonu Sood. So well deserved! You continue to do God’s work and it’s so inspiring to see. Thank you for all that you do.” Responding to this, he said, "Thank u so much for your encouraging words, Priyanka Chopra. You are an inspiration for millions.. and I am one of them. Keep motivating the world because you are our true hero. Loads of love."

Sood expressed his joy and called this a rare honour, further stating that the recognition from the United Nations was very special, and he did everything without expecting anything from my countrymen. Besides the assistance provided, Sood and his team launched the 'Pravasi Rozgar' app to help migrant workers get new jobs. His relief work continues today.

On the film front, Sood has been appreciated for his work in many movies across several industries. His debut was with Kallazhagar, post-which he signed his Bollywood film Shaheed-E-Azam in 2002. Over the last few years, his performances in Jodha Akhar, Simmba, Dabangg, Shootout at Wadala and other films have been applauded/
