Artisans' basket of woes overflows!

SHARES

Dadar - The worst affected by demonetisation are the artisans who operate cottage industries in the city.
Check out these artisans who have been weaving bamboo baskets, earning just enough to make both ends meet for the last several years. Vendors - and these can be small merchants, fisherfolk - continue to purchase their goods but at much lower rate since demonetisation struck. The sales are down by as much as 50 per cent, claim the weavers who occupy the footpaths outside Mahim station and anyway have a tough time dealing with authorities on a daily basis.
These artfully created yet functional baskets are sold across Nashik, Pune and Goa too. But with the cash crunch, baskets that would earlier sell for Rs 200 are going for as low as Rs 100. When are the 'acche din' coming, these artisans want to know.
