On Thursday, May 19, the cooking gas LPG prices rose for the second time in the month by INR 3.50, reported the news agency PTI. With this, the LPG cylinder prices across India breached the INR 1,000 threshold. Starting today, 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders will be available in Mumbai for nearly INR 1,003, as the narratives mentioned.

According to reports, earlier on May 7, gas prices were increased because of which LPG cylinder costs breached the 1,000-mark in many cities.

Based on accounts, commercial cylinders have also become expensive. A 19-kg LPG cylinder is being sold for INR 2,306 in Mumbai. Commercial LPG cylinders are being used in establishments like hotels and restaurants. Earlier this month, the prices of the commercial cylinder were also increased.

It has been reported in the first week of May the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was increased to INR 2,355.50 by INR 102.50.

Certain narratives suggest that the surge in prices of LPG cylinders is witnessed when the Consumer Price Index-based retail inflation rose to 7.8 per cent in April.

Speculations have attributed the rise in the price of LPG cylinders to geopolitical tensions, and the rise in transportation costs because of a surge in fuel prices. What's interesting to note, is conclusions drawn by some reports highlighting that following the assembly elections in five states, the prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG are being risen consequently.
