India continues the exercise of banning apps that are of Chinese origin. On Tuesday, the Indian government announced that it has banned 43 new mobile apps. The most notable name amongst this new list of the banned app is that of AliExpress, which is an online shopping app owned by e-commerce behemoth Alibaba.
According to reports, these apps have been banned as per the reports received from the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs.
On June 29, the Indian government has put a ban on 59 Chinese apps including the popular short video app TikTok. Other apps that were taken down in what was termed largely as "Digital surgical strike" were WeChat and UC Browser. Later the Ministry on September 2 had further banned 118 more apps under section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Government is committed to protecting the interests of citizens and sovereignty and integrity of India on all fronts and it shall take all possible steps to ensure that.
