In a surprising development, the transport authorities in Mumbai have authorized a notice to Rapido, the ride-hailing application, asking it to shut down its services in the city.

As per reports, the Maharashtra government is yet to give permission to the app to conduct its bike-taxi service in Mumbai. Earlier on Friday, Rapido had announced the launch of its services in the city adding that it plans to take on board at least two lakh drivers in the next two years in order to expand its operations. However, the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department stated it has not given any permission to the company adding that the move happens to be illegal.

Moreover, the Andheri RTO, which has the registration code MH02, has also appealed to the company to immediately shut its service, or else action will be taken against it as per provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The company has also been given seven days to respond and warned of action if it fails to do so.

Rapido happens to be an Indian online bike taxi aggregator based out of Bangalore, India. It was founded back in 2015 and offers bike-taxi service to customers across 100 cities including tier-2 and tier-3 cities, while the auto-rickshaw services are available in 14 cities across 10 states.
