India's popular Jewellery brand Tanishq was being trolled on social media, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, over the recently released advertisement. The concept in the ad bothered many viewers, so much so that the netizens demanded everyone to boycott the brand, and report the ad.
Started by a group of hate mongers, the hashtag #BoycottTanishq was soon trending on Twitter and observing the negativity, the company withdrew the released brand advertisement.
Many claimed that the advertisement by Tanishq promoted love jihad, and soon the word spread against the concept, gathering hate on several social media platforms. People shared ill messages for the makers and also demanded that the advertisement be removed. On the contrary, several people loved the ad, for it promoted a good message, and they appreciated the brand for taking a progressive stance towards the subject and delivering it with sheer respect.
The advertisement shows a Hindu woman who was married to a Muslim family. She is pregnant, and her baby shower is being celebrated according to her tradition, despite the family's religion. Towards the end, the mother-in-law talks about the girl's happiness irrespective of the family and religion.
In today's time, such messages are not shown often, however, the brand took a bold and sensitive move by portraying the Hindu-Muslim unity. Sadly, the audience criticized and accused the ad of promoting love jihad, which is shameful, considering it was meant to be on a good note.
Following the backlash, the team at Tanishq released an apology note, by sharing the message on Twitter.
