The exhibition and sale of Mahalaxmi Saras as part of Umeed-Maharashtra State Rural Life Improvement Mission is starting from December 26 at MMRDA grounds in Bandra. Mahalakshmi Saras Exhibition has been organised for two weeks from December 26 to January 8. Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan has appealed to the citizens to visit the Saras exhibition empowering women self-help groups.


Mahalakshmi Saras Exhibition plays a vital role in empowering the Self Help Groups which generate significant financial turnover every year. In the last one and a half decade, about 8 thousand self-help groups have participated through this exhibition. The exhibition will include embroidered sarees, jute goods, bamboo goods, wooden goods, leather goods, artificial jewellery, ladies bags, shoes, dress materials, sarees, bedsheets, carpets and curtains.

It will have stalls selling home-made spices, papad, kurdai and other food items. The exhibition aims to celebrate the food culture and innovation of rural India for Mumbaikars and the entire country. Various types of handicrafts made by rural women will be available in the Saras exhibition. Tourists will get a chance to taste and shop for delicious rural cuisine, from Jalgaon Bhari to Konkan Macchi and Rice Roti.


Traditional dishes like Tambada-Pandhara Rassa from Kolhapur and Phalian Chutney from Solapur will also be available. Besides this, spices and handmade rice from different parts of the state will also be on display.
