The situation in Mumbai now seems to be coming under control but things are not the same in the other districts of the state. Accordingly, local authorities have been issuing new curbs and restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.

A complete lockdown will be clamped in the Nashik district of Maharashtra for 10 days beginning May 12 given the surge in COVID-19 cases, guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Monday, May 10. The new restrictions will come into force from noon and will remain in effect till May 22, said reports. As part of the new curbs, people will not be allowed to step outside except for essential and medical reasons.

This decision came after at least 48 people died due to the lethal COVID-19 disease in the city on Sunday, May 9.

During the restriction period, all essential services, including medical stores, hospitals and other services listed under the category will continue to function like before.

Shops selling grocery, sweets, and bakeries will remain open from 7 am to 12 noon but only for home deliveries.

People are banned from actually going to these shops; they may order the required goods online, which the shopkeepers will deliver to their homes.

Weekly markets and vegetable markets will remain shut while roadside vendors are allowed to sell vegetables and fruits at the spots earmarked for them, from 7am to 12pm.

Further, milk collection and supply is allowed from 7 am to 12 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm. The state government’s ambitious Shiv Bhojan scheme will function from 10 am to 12 pm and from these centres, meal parcels will be provided. Shops under the public distribution scheme will remain open as per the orders issued by the authorities from time to time.

Home delivery of parcels from hotels, restaurants and liquor vends will be allowed from 7 am to 12 noon and 5 pm to 7 pm. No customers will be allowed at all these establishments.

All Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) in the district will remain closed during this period.

All schools, colleges, other training institutes, playgrounds and gardens will remain closed along with marriage halls and lawns. Only registered marriages are allowed in the District Registrar's office and only five people can attend.

A maximum of 20 people are allowed to attend funerals while only 15 people can participate in post-death rituals, it said.

All vaccination centres, banks, post offices will remain open from 9 am to 12 noon only for essential works.

Earlier, a strict lockdown was also decided in Kolhapur, Amravati and Sangli districts.

Meanwhile, Bhujbal has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding that journalists in the state be categorised as frontline workers and given vaccines immediately.
