Goregaon-Mulund Link Road: 14 acres of land cleared in Mumbai suburbs during anti-encroachment drive

The administration has warned that similar special campaigns will be launched swiftly to remove encroachments from other government lands in the Mumbai Suburban district.

Mumbai Suburban District Collector Saurabh Katiyar, in collaboration with all administrative departments of the district, has launched a campaign to remove unauthorized encroachments on government land in the Mumbai Suburban District. After clearing 11 acres of government land in Mankhurd, Kurla Taluka, and handing it over to the Mumbai Central Jail Administration, this encroachment removal campaign now includes the removal of 220 unauthorised warehouses/garages used for commercial purposes in Mankhurd, 1/1 of Kurla Taluka, 6/1 of Mandla, and government land along the creek, on June 11, 2026, totaling 14 acres of government land.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 6, Sameer Shaikh, provided security during the campaign, ensuring the successful removal of encroachments. The eviction drive was carried out with the assistance of the Additional District Collector (Extension/Extension) of the Eastern Suburbs, the Deputy District Collector (Extension/Extension) of Chembur, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Eastern Suburbs, the Assistant Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (M/East), the Tehsildar of Kurla, the Public Works Department, the City Survey Officer of Chembur, and other administrative departments.

To ensure a peaceful and smooth operation, approximately 600 officers and employees from the Police Department, 150 employees from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 100 officers and employees from the Revenue Department, and 10 officers and employees from the City Survey Department were deployed. Additionally, three Poclain machines and four JCB machines were used to remove the encroachments. Immediate action will be taken to protect the land and allocate it to government projects/departments in accordance with government policy.

Coordinated administrative action and effective action by the Revenue Department have made it possible to remove large-scale encroachments and reclaim this vital government land. The administration has warned that similar special campaigns will be launched swiftly to remove encroachments from other government lands in the Mumbai Suburban district.
