In the structural audit of Kalyan-Dombivali, 187 buildings have been declared as high risk and 284 buildings as dangerous.

As these high-risk buildings happen to be over 30 years old, Additional Commissioner of Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Sunil Pawar, has appealed to the citizens to evacuate their houses immediately and avoid accidents like Bhiwandi.

After the misfortune accident in Bhiwandi, the issue of dangerous buildings in dilapidated conditions has popped up again. Following the order of the government, the KDMC administration conducted a structural audit of the old buildings in the Kalyan-Dombivali city.

Kamankar Durraj, civil engineer and an activist had earlier alleged that at least 500 illegal buildings have come up in Bhiwandi in the past five years. These buildings have been constructed using inferior material, moreover, lacking even a basic designated architect.

Moreover, the KDMC administration has claimed that the audit of all the buildings in the city has been completed in the wake of the Bhiwandi tragedy. However, the auditor, speaking to the media has stated that it was impossible to complete the entire audit of the buildings within the time given by the municipal administration due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation has noted a total of 150 buildings in the city in the list of dangerous buildings. According to sources, most of these buildings were built in the city in the 1990s.
