Bakri Eid: 2.21 lakh goats for sale in Mumbai

Out of the 2,21,000 goats, only 1,60,000 were sold by Sunday evening as Eid al-Adha is celebrated on Monday

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, a number of goats were brought in from Bhopal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bhiwandi, Raigad in the premises of Deonar slaughterhouse. 

But out of the 2,21,000 goats, only 1,60,000 were sold by Sunday evening. The goats were priced over a lakh and one particular goat from Dahisar cost about ₹5,11,000! Another goat which came in from Bhopal cost about ₹4,50,000.

As Deonar slaughterhouse gets crowded during the festival of Bakri Eid, CCTV cameras have been set up to monitor the entire situation. Notably, the veterinary dept of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) had organised special medical camps for the treatment and vaccination of goats arriving in the city of Mumbai. 

Approximately 300 traders and shepherds from various states across India have come to sell livestock in Mira Ro.
