Coronavirus Pandemic: Maharashtra reports highest single-day spike in COVID-19 deaths with 122 fatalities on Wednesday

69 patients were over the age of 60 years, 46 were from 40-59 years age group and seven were below 40 age group. 88 deceased patients (72 per cent) had co-morbidities.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 122 fatalities throughout the day, taking the tally of deaths due to coronavirus in the state to 2,587. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, the state reported 2,560 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the total number of cases in Maharashtra to 74,860. As per the state health department, there are at present, 39,935 active cases in the state. Alongside, 996 patients were discharged as they recovered from the infection. With this, the number of recovered persons in the state has climbed to 32,329.

According to the state health department, they have carried out 4,97,276 tests so far. Of which, 74,860 tests results turned out to be positive. Along with this, 5,71,915 persons in the state have been ordered home-quarantine whereas 33,674 persons have been sent to institutional quarantine. The state has a capacity of 72,912 beds in its quarantine facilities.

Coming back to the deaths recorded on June 3 due to coronavirus, 71 of the 122 fatalities were male whereas 51 were female patients. 69 patients were over the age of 60 years, 46 were from 40-59 years age group and seven were below 40 age group. 88 deceased patients (72 per cent) had co-morbidities.

Mumbai, on Wednesday, accounted for 49 of the 122 deaths and the city reported 1,276 cases throughout the day. The total number of deaths in Mumbai now stands at 1,417.

Meanwhile, the state government has been implementing Cluster Containment Strategy wherever a cluster of COVID-19 patients are found out. At present, there are 3,730 containment zones active in Maharashtra and 19,019 survey teams have been working to trace the patients. These teams have surveyed 71.61 lakh people so far.
