Omicron Scare: 11 new cases detected in Mumbai, including 1.5-year-old girl from UK

On Monday, December 27, Maharashtra reported 26 new cases of Omicron Variant; however, out of these, 11 have been reported from Mumbai

These included a 1.5- year-old girl who arrived from the UK, and who is currently admitted to SevenHills Hospital. Out of the 11 new cases in Mumbai, two had taken booster shots. 

Of the total, six are not residents of the city and were directly moved from the Mumbai airport to the hospital. Most had arrived from countries like London, Ghana and Dubai between December 12 and 20.

All patients are asymptomatic cases in Mumbai except two people who have mild symptoms and are admitted to hospital as a precautionary measure. One patient had taken a booster dose of Chinese Sinopharm BIBP COVID-19 vaccine.

The new detections have taken the count of Omicron cases in Mumbai to 85. Of which, 44 patients have been discharged.

Giving the break-up of 26, the bulletin said Thane reported four cases, Raigad (Panvel Municipal Corporation) - five, Nanded - two. Meanwhile, Nagpur, Palghar, Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (in Thane district) and Pune rural reported one case each.

With this, the total tally of the new coronavirus variant has reached to 167 in the state. Though, 72 patients have been discharged till date following a negative RT-PCR test, the department said.

The state health department said all the patients have a history of international travel, except two persons, both of whom were high-risk contacts of a person who came from abroad.

Moreover, Mumbai recorded 809 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths on Monday, December 27. Meanwhile, as many as 1,426 COVID-19 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours.
