A 27-year-old man died after allegedly falling from a local train while trying to de-board from wrong side and getting fatally entangled in the railway divider fencing at near number four of Mumbai Central railway station on Thursday morning, June 5. The incident was reported around 10:00 am.
The deceased, identified as Dhila Rajesh Hamira, was found hanging from the iron fencing situated between the up fast line and the suburban avoiding line (STA), close to Platform No. 4 of Mumbai Central station. He was a resident of Jogeshwari.
An ambulance (108 service) arrived at the location by 10:14 am. Hamira was immediately sent to the Nair hospital where he was declared dead by on arrival.
These incidents take place despite railways warning and appeal to commuters to follow the rules and avoid deboarding from the wrong side or a moving train, as it could be fatal.
According to eyewitnesses who were traveling in the same coach, Hamira reportedly attempted to disembark the moving train from the wrong side—opposite the platform—when the accident occurred. His neck got caught in the iron spikes of the divider (iron fencing), resulting in severe injuries. He was found dead at the site.
Officials are investigating in the matter regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the passenger attempted to exit from the non-platform side of the train. However, exact cause of the death will be known after Postmortem.
