Mumbai is one of the worst affected cities in the country and the Brihnamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking necessary steps to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Coronavirus cases in the city of Mumbai are on a rise, and over the last few days, thousands of citizens have been infected with COVID-19 and many have succumbed to the infection too. Currently, essential services and staff members are working relentlessly to support the government in containing the spread, and among those, many members have also been infected with COVID-19. 

In a recently released report, the Mumbai Police officers have also been hit hard by the coronavirus. Information reported about the infection states that  279 police personnel have been quarantined due to COVID-19 in the last seven days. 

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, a PSI died of coronavirus infection and the number of police officers infected with the same in Mumbai had gone up to 7,997, out of which 7442 policemen have been treated successfully. At present, 454 police personnel are undergoing treatment. 

Meanwhile, COVID-19 has  killed 101 policemen so far.

About 70 per cent of Mumbai Police staff have been vaccinated and more than 30,000 policemen were been given the first dose of the vaccine on April 11. This includes 2690 police officers and 28,066 police constables. Furthermore, a total of 17,315 police personnel which includes 325 police officers and 16,026 police constables were given a second dose of the vaccine.

However, more than 75 COVID-19 vaccination centres were shut last week as the city did not have sufficient supply of vaccines.

COVID-19 cases in Mumbai are on a significant rise and with an aim to curb the same, the state government has imposed night curfew in the state along with weekend lockdown. However, the COVID-19 task force has asked the government to impose a strict lockdown keeping the spread in mind. Addressing the same, CM Uddhav Thackeray informed that the decision regarding the lockdown will be announced in a few days, after thorough consideration with the cabinet.
