Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has started rationing water in the evenings to deal with the low water levels at Morbe Dam. NMMC has announced that all areas will now have half-day water cuts three times a week. This plan should save about 75 million litres of water each day.

The morning water supply will not change. People are also asked to save water. Digha is not affected because it gets water from MIDC. Airoli will have cuts twice a week.

Since last year, there has been a half-day cut once a week from NMMC. On June 5, NMMC increased it to twice a week. Now it will happen three times due to little rain and low supplies. The schedule will stay the same until the dam gets enough rain.

It should be noted that the monsoon arrived earlier than the expected date in the area. The NMMC has taken this preventive measure because there wasn't much rainfall in the areas that feed the Morbe dam.

The city has taken many steps to save water. It uses treated water for gardens instead of drinking water. 27 million litres of water have been saved per day by stopping illegal connections. Societies using too much water have been sent notices.

Morbe Dam now has enough water for only 40 more days. It's at 26% capacity now. On Saturday, June 15, the level was 69.33 metres, with 50 million cubic metres of storage. This level is the same as last year at this time. Officials have also asked everyone to save water.
